MFA Customer Story: Salary.com
Established software-as-a-service (SaaS) company relies on MFA to encircle their operations with finance, staffing and compliance support
For more than 20 years, Salary.com has used a combination of survey data and software analytics to ensure firms can get Pay Right for the sake of their employees and firm growth. Following organizational changes – including an acquisition by IBM and subsequent spin-off and management buy-out – the SaaS company continued to experience growth and found itself in need of a multi-faceted advisor to support its complex financial, compliance and organizational requirements.
When Theodore Les joined Salary.com as Chief Financial Officer in 2018, the company was already engaged with MFA, and he readily admits – he was not familiar with the firm. But after witnessing key engagements with the Firm’s Tax and Audit Practices, he quickly took note of their technical skills and business savvy.
In addition to managing Salary.com’s complex tax returns and provisions as well as financial statement audits, MFA was also engaged to audit their corporate 401k plan and perform regular sales and use tax audits to ensure compliance with changing state and local tax (SALT) guidance.
While engaged with MFA for these highly technical financial matters, Salary.com was simultaneously searching for third-party staffing support. As the company continued to grow, its need for skilled talent grew accordingly, and upon learning of MFA’s Talent Acquisition Practice, the company did not hesitate to expand its partnership to include recruitment management services. MFA was retained to recruit both temporary and permanent talent for Salary.com’s finance team, and according to Les, the depth and breadth of MFA’s networks resulted in strong hires.
As the company continues to grow both organically and through acquisition, Les says, they look for MFA’s support to evolve alongside the company over time. Salary.com continues to lean on MFA for compliance and advisory services across multiple tax and audit service lines, and the professionalism and effective business conversations that have transpired have enabled a strong and prolific partnership.
Salary.com has also deepened their relationship with MFA’s Talent Acquisition Team, expanding beyond finance roles and relying on MFA to source top talent in other areas of the company, including business development. The ability to rely on a single, trusted advisor for everything from tax and compliance to recruiting and general business advisory, has, in Les’ words, proven to be a very valuable advantage.
