Consultant (Risk Advisory)

The Risk Advisory Consultant operates within MFA’s Risk Advisory Practice and is responsible for leading the development, documentation and execution of risk advisory related engagements, business development and acting as a technical liaison with customers. This position is the primary point-of-contact for customer-facing engagements and leads the execution of fieldwork and other critical engagement components.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Risk Advisory Engagements
    • Work with customers to achieve improved business processes and internal controls for their organization
    • Implement and/or assess risk management programs for our customers by utilizing client preferred compliance frameworks and/or professional standards (e.g., COSO, COBIT NIST, AICPA, IIA)
    • Work with engagement teams to deliver quality customer work products on time
    • Prepare and identify testing criteria for customers relating to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, System and Organization Controls (SOC) reports (SOC 1, 2 and 3), other attestation reviews, internal audit engagements, and other Risk Advisory projects
    • Perform testing and initial review of internal controls
    • Perform additional business process and/or IT related assessments, as defined
    • Responsible for customer deliverable creation and submission
    • Experience with governance, risk and compliance (GRC) tools and platforms is a plus
    • Experience with fraud, financial crime, forensic accounting, cybersecurity, data privacy, data analytics and/or third-party risk management service is preferred but not required
    • Project manage engagements from start to finish, interfacing with customers and Firm personnel
    • Serve as primary point of contact for engagement status and deliverables
    • Present results of engagements to management and/or Boards of Directors, as warranted
    • Travel to customer sites as needed
  • Coaching and Mentoring Staff
    • Provide guidance to analysts and endeavor to support their growth
    • Assist with on-the-job training and coaching as questions or issues arise
    • Helping with periodic performance evaluations of staff
    • Serve as a mentor for (and be mentored by) another Firm member, at any level, across the entire Firm

Qualifications

  • MBA, MSA or equivalent business or IT degree
  • CPA, CIA, CISA, CRIS or similar credential and or/candidate preferred
  • Three (3) to four (4) years of relevant experience focused on testing controls, participating in compliance assessments, and/or performing risk assessments
  • Comprehension of different organizations’ business models and operations
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills with experience exercising mature judgement
  • Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines and work objectives
  • Ability to write and communicate clearly, succinctly, and in a manner that appeals to a wide audience
  • Superior project management skills, including setting and re-setting expectations and ensuring deliverables are completed accurately, timely, and on budget
